A short but pleasant flight with a full-service carrier.
Flight: MH 608
Route: Singapore to Kuala Lumpur
Class: Economy
Aircraft: Boeing 737-800
Duration: 1 hour, 10 minutes (scheduled), but the average flight time is just 40 minutes. Delayed in Singapore for 30 mins.
Loyalty Scheme: Malaysia Airlines’ own Enrich programme, as well as partner oneworld airlines.
Fare hack
We booked this flight via Firefly, Malaysia Airlines’ regional subsidiary. It was up to $50 cheaper than the same flight marketed on the Malaysia Airlines website.
Lounge Access
oneworld Sapphire and above, and Business Class passengers. Eligible guests are given access to the SATS Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport, as the oneworld lounges are in Terminal 1 (this flight departs from Terminal 2).
Onboard
Not full, but not empty. Malaysia Airlines’ 737s are clean and fresh, with a turquoise, blue and purple lighting scheme during the flight which is calming and modern. We had a few bumps after take-off, but otherwise it was a smooth night flight.

Service
The typical friendly Malaysia Airlines service. When the seatbelt sign was turned off the cabin crew came through with a bag of nuts and cold drinks.
Entertainment
Malaysia Airlines’ entertainment seat-back screens are installed on this aircraft, but with such a short flight, there’s not much time to use them.

Final Call
For such a short flight, you can’t ask for much more. The other options on the route include low-cost carriers, as well as Singapore Airlines with their A350s and A330s – both wide-body aircraft – and fifth-freedom airlines including Ethiopian and Air Mauritius. Malaysia Airlines offers competitive fares, which can be even better when booked through subsidiary Firefly.
Rating: 4.5/5 for a very solid offering on this route.
